Day of the Dead Altar constructed by art students at SDCCS |
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. This holiday is focused on gathering family and friends to remember those who have passed. The celebration takes place on October 31, November 1 and 2. Traditions include building private altars decorated with sugar skulls, marigolds, papel picados [cut paper designs] and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. Special thanks goes out to Marina López for her dedication to make this a new tradition at SDCCS.
